Brazilian Real Estate Companies and the Quiet Revolution in Brazil’s Real Estate Market

The past decade has seen a quiet revolution in Brazilian real estate. In the midst of strong economic growth, foreign investors began to look at South American and especially Brazilian real estate markets as a safer bet than in the past. Brazilians who would have previously been more likely to buy a home abroad started to consider purchasing in Brazil as a more viable option. Brazil’s economic growth has led to the expansion of the market, both in Rio and Sao Paulo, as well as in smaller real estate markets.

Spurred on by growing consumer demand and increased foreign confidence, this recent growth has extended into commercial developments, especially shopping malls, and residential real estate. Headquartered in Rio’s Tijuca neighborhood, Cabral Garcia Empreendimentos, found here on Twitter, is one of the leading real estate developers in Brazil, having just completed an 11,322 sq.m. luxury community on the west side of Rio de Janeiro, its first residential project in three years.

Cabral Garcia Empreendimento’s new project is the first new residential development to in the west side in several years, with the addition of a new subway station making the area a more attractive commuting option, and they’ve commented on what that’s accomplished so far. Their recent luxury aparthotel project in Lapa, a gentrifying neighborhood in Rio famous for culture and nightlife, recently sold out as well.  A more detailed description of their development history can be found on LinkedIn.

Despite economic struggles in the country overall, the real estate sector benefits from some specific advantages. Mortgage debt in Brazil is low and the growing Brazilian middle class views property ownership as a hedge against inflation. Growth may be slowing, but Brazilian real estate companies such as BHG continue to thrive on the growth of the middle class in 2nd and 3rd-tier Brazilian cities, which have grown rapidly on the heels of economic expansion, a trend which is bound to continue as the economy recovers.

Looking Back at One Life to Live

Much can be said about soap operas and the influence they’ve had on the lives of viewers. Often thought of as an opiate for the everyday housewife, soap operas where a means of escape for many. They gave us a peek at lives that we wished were our own, and as time passed we became obsessed with the fake problems of fake people who were so real to the faithful who watched every day without fail.

Any aficionado of the genre would know immediately who you were talking about if you mentioned the Lord, Buchanan, and Manning families. One Life to Live was one of ABC’s longest running soaps. Making its debut in July,1968, One Life to Live commanded our attention for well over forty-three years. Created by Agnes Nixon it dealt with the lives of people in the fictional town of Llanview, Pennsylvania. As characteristic of most soaps it dwelled on the day to day challenges of rich families. Like most soaps all of the characters were extraordinarily good looking people who lived in luxurious and beautiful homes. It was an adult fairy tale that made us shake our heads and wonder what those crazy folks were going to do next.

There were many things about One Life to Live that set it apart from other soaps of the day. It was the first daytime program to depict people from various backgrounds. The focus was not just on the lives of the rich and famous, but the show broke new ground as it focused also on the ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of the people in Llanview. As it set the standard One Life to Live did stories on the controversial as well as the unusual. Stories included interracial dating, drug addiction, out of body experiences, cults, international terrorism, and time travel.

Soap operas were also a great way to break-in to the movie industry. Because the shows were filmed live, they were like a master class in acting before the camera. As a matter of fact, the careers of Leonardo Di Caprio, Kevin Bacon, Meg Ryan, and Crystal Hunt were launched by appearances on soap operas, and it’s led to a really successful career as well as her massive Instagram following.

Crystal Hunt is an American actress and producer. Born in Clearwater, Florida, she got her start in the business winning pageants. She starred in The Guiding Light from 2002 to 2006, and was the vixen Stacy Morasco in One Life to Live.

For her portrayal of Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light, Ms. Hunt earned a Daytime Emmy nomination as listed on Wikipedia. She appeared in the film The Derby Stallion, and produced her first feature film Talbot County.

Brad Reifler: Continually Manufacturing Financial Solutions

It takes guts to follow after entrepreneurial pursuits. To do such a thing perpetually is almost unthinkable; but that’s what Brad Reifler’s done. Six years ago, in 2009, he became the chief executive of Forefront Capital, which is a financial organization Reifler founded himself. Before that he had founded an organization called Pali Capital, which he also worked in capacity as a CEO for. This organization was a financial firm that provided services on a worldwide basis. But Reifler has an even deeper history than that. He used to trade for Refco, and when he was involved with them was known as one of their best traders. This led to his first entrepreneurial pursuit, a business based on his experience and those services he could provide. It was called the Reifler Trading Company, and the agency where he had been a premiere trader–Refco–actually acquired it in 2000; which just goes to show how well Brad managed the thing.

Reifler isn’t content to contain his efforts to the foundation and operation of new financial enterprises, however as his CrunchBase history shows. He spreads himself and works in many different areas to continuously facilitate growth and profit. Currently he is also a director at the Sino Mercury Company. He has also worked as a director for an organization called Genesis Securities, for Foresight Research Solutions, and for the well-known European American Investment Bank. He is also a partner at the CIFCO International Group.

One of the most surprising things about Reifler is that he never attained greater than a BA in the world of formal education. This should speak to his intelligence and resourcefulness more than anything. They say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Those who continue in “higher education” have surpassed the zenith of an educational institution’s ability to offer instruction, and have now transitioned into a realm where like-minded peers are becoming professionally viable on their own, and looking to hire friends along the way. Yet Brad Reifler is so competent, he’s been able to work his way into founding and leadership positions without the extra hand-up, his history is littered with his past opportunities. That indicates expertise loudly and clearly; more than a certificate verifying hoops were jumped through for most of a decade would, anyway. Actual business experience always trumps pseudo-experience like that which comes from accreditation. There’s a reason a popular epithet for PH. D is “Piled Higher and Deeper”.

Reifler has expertise and the background to prove it. Furthermore, he doesn’t shy away from continuing to develop himself and his methods. With over twenty years’ experience directly related to actual operations in multiple financial markets, Brad continues to surprise and make profit for a variety of agencies, and he intends to continue doing so.

How Are Sleep Apnea Doctors Helping Patients Worldwide?

Sleep apnea doctors like Avi Weisfogel have committed their lives to helping people get a good nights rest. Dr. Weisfogel runs his clinic with a focus on patient comfort, and his methods have helped many people get past the sleep disorders that have plagued them. The sleep apnea epidemic is getting out of control in America, but this article explains how doctors like Avi Weisfogel are making a change for the better.

#1: Sleep Studies Are Vital

Older patients of sleep apnea may not have had sleep studies done for their condition. Sleep apnea was once only treated with an oxygen machine that kept patient breathing in the night. Newer studies have shown that patients would benefit from other procedures after their sleep studies have been completed. Dr. Weisfogel and his colleagues conduct sleep studies overnight to accurately judge how their patients are sleeping. Each study tells the doctors quite a bit about their patients, and better treatment is prescribed once the sleep study is complete.

#2: Every Patient Wants To Get Off Treatment

The treatment schedule for every patient with sleep apnea gradually decreases over time. Patients do not want to spend the rest of their lives on treatment, and Dr. Weisfogel slowly scales back treatments until his patients are no longer in need of help from his program. A sleep apnea program should not keep a patient tied to a treatment, and Dr, Wesifogel works with every patient to eventually end their treatment.

#3: Sleep Apnea Treatments Take Many Forms

Patients must be open to new possibilities when they come to see professionals like Dr. Weisfogel. Every sleep apnea patient must be given the treatment that best suits their needs, and the patients that receive proper treatments tend to stop treatment sooner. Do not go to a sleep apnea doctor with a particular treatment in mind. It is much better for everyone to have an open mind that allows for many treatment options while speaking with the doctor.

Doctors like Avi Weisfogel are changing the world one patient at a time with sleep apnea treatments. Getting the right treatment for sleep apnea will help patients sleep a full eight hours every night, and their days will become much easier to manage. Have a little patience with the program to ensure that the best results are achieved while working with someone as knowledgeable and skilled as Avi Weisfogel.

Homejoy’s Woes are Handy’s Gain

There is very little joy in the offices of Homejoy. The company sought to become a kingpin in the world of home cleaning and maintenance services. The way the company was set up to work was very simple. Through Homejoy, people could hire professionals for cleaning and other home-related tasks. Homejoy thought it was tapping into a lucrative market. The company’s backing was very sound. Things, however, did not work out. Homejoy has recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The enterprise’s future is very much in question.

The company did raise eyebrows with a funny advertising campaign featuring Baywatch and Knight Rider TV icon David Hasselhoff in some truly funny commercials. More helpful than the commercials was the massive amount of startup funding raised for the company. A truly huge backer was part of the mix. Google Ventures along with First Round Capital were the heavy hitters contributing to the $30+ million in funding.

Things started to look fine for the company. Homejoy established operations in five countries and also began expanding the services it provided. And then trouble started.

Lawsuits did factor into the company’s woes. At the core of the legal contentions was the “independent contractors” hired by Homejoy should be classified as employees. The amount of money that the company would be forced to pay out if reclassifications were put in place could render the business insolvent.

This would come on the heels of the inconvenient fact that the company’s revenue coffers were starting to run a little thin. Business just was not as good as it could have been.

Likely, competition from Handy has hurt Homejoy. Handy has made a lot of headlines in its publicly stated desire to “become the Uber of home services and maintenance.” The way Handy works is simple. An app is installed on a mobile device and freelancers can be searched for, hired, and paid via the app.

Handy has grown quite a bit in a relatively short period of time. Tens of millions of dollars have been raised with the goal of doubling the number of cities Handy services will be offered. Look for the company to be a giant in the industry soon.
